The Crochet Hook Size Matters (Coasters) Combination Trials

DSC08480After I finished these smaller coaster (3 1/4 inches in diameter) with an F hook, I remembered that the larger diameter coasters (4 inches) with the same pattern were made with a three size larger hook, an I hook.  The tighter stitch makes for a less smooth a trim circle.

Study In Red And Black Cotton Yarn Crochet

DSC07520 These crocheted cotton yarn coasters are the first of my 4 inch 85% cotton coasters that I have embellished.   The embroidered vine design did not move well.  The rings of red and black on white in chain stitch look awkward.

DSC07519 This simple design with chain stitch on double and single crocheted coasters,  moves well in the hands, and looks good.

“Splash” Dyed Cotton Yarn

Here are some 4 inch diameter coasters and a 9 1/2 inch trivet done in Premier Home 85%cotton, 15% polyester #4 yarn, made by Premier Home.   I like the uneven mottled effects that they give, and working with them is fun.  The stitches are all single crochet, double crochet, or treble crochet, with a size H hook.

DSC07514 Clockwise from the 11:30 o’clock  position are: Flamingo Splash, Sahara Splash, Tangerine Splash, Olive Splash, Denim Splash, Violet Splash, and Honeydew Splash.  The trivet is done in Ocean Splash.  Of their “Splashes”, I am only missing Grey Splash.

So many cotton blends are available on the market, I am exploring those of Premier Home, right now.  I like their bright colors, and some other aspects of their cotton blend #4 yarns.  This is a record of their “Splash” yarns.
