This little carbide steel sharpener, available for less than ten dollars,  is wonderful  for all straight edges, and is great for scissors.  A couple of swipes on each side of the  blade rendered this beat up pair of scissors sharp enough to cut thread with an even edge, so that the thread easily went through the needle’s eye.
